The fall out from this years National Coming Out Day continues. This time attention is focused on Arizona where the student newspaper at the University of Arizona refers to a father who threatens to kill his son if he tells him he is gay. This, it seems, is meant to be funny as it is a cartoon.
The editors have, of course, now apologized, stating that some readers found it “inappropriate”. I hate that word. It is one of the most misused words in the english language it seems. The opposite of inappropriate would be appropriate, right?
So can someone tell me when this cartoon would have been appropriate? Wrong would have been the APPROPRIATE choice of word.
