Following on from yesterdays link about countries and the Olympics I came across this interesting link about LGBTQ athletes competing.
Surprisingly there are only 26 out athletes competing out of over 12,000. Surely there must be more than 26 out? If not then this all points back to the fact that sport needs to become much more inclusive than it currently is. There certainly must be more than 26 gay people out of 12,000….
So how do we tackle this? In schools and through education in my mind. Only by teaching sports men and women at an early age that inclusivity is important and okay will we start to make a difference.
