Here is an interesting little story that was making the rounds yesterday. It seems that an openly gay judge who had been nominated to the bench was blocked after a congressman roused enough support to have him blocked.
Why did he have him blocked? Well, you can read about that in the article, but it’s pretty twisted and perverse logic. In a nutshell it says that because he is in a committed relationship he is breaking the state’s constitution.
One of the arguments used in California against the judge who presided over the Prop 8 trial was that he was gay and therefore shouldn’t have been allowed to be in charge. By that token then you couldn’t have any straight judges presiding over many cases that have to do with “straightness”. It’s all so confusing….
