Now here’s a thing. You’ll remember that last week president Obama came out in support of marriage equality. A few days later, Mitt Romney reiterated his stance of being against marriage equality. It seems that these unequivocal statements may be making people rethink their affiliations.
Today’s link talks about a wealthy donor who has how announced that he is withdrawing his support from Romney. He doesn’t really go as far saying that he is now fully supporting Obama, but that he does how have his vote. The key is, as you will read, the official positions on marriage equality.
There has been much talk about whether Obama will lose votes due to his position. This is one of the first concrete stories of him gaining votes. It will be interesting to see if more gay Republicans switch sides now the statements have made it clearly a policy difference, something that didn’t exist before Obama’s statement.
