Greetings all. I hope today finds you fine and dandy and enjoying your weekend wherever and whoever you are! Today’s Link is an interesting one that talks about the experiences of a small community in England and how they have responded to the current Marriage Equality debate that is underway in the UK. I’ll let you read the article, but basically it talks all about the small community of Thanet and the activities on both sides of the argument.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; the fight for equality is best fought down at this local level and by being visible. Only when our neighbours know us and support us do we gain significant traction. If we remain faceless and invisible then there is no connection to the rest of the world with our issues. I know this to be true especially for James and me, who live in Northern Kentucky, USA, which is hardly the bastion of liberality. We have fantastic neighbours though who are very supportive of us and I like to think that is largely becuase they know us.
So do your thing this week with confidence. Talk to some of your friends and neighbours if possible about marriage equality. I know it’s not always easy, but start off with someone who is supportive and just sound them out. You might be surprised at their positive reactions!
