The continuing saga of religious rights and discrimination.

Today’s Link

This morning I read a very disturbing article and watched an equally disturbing video.  You can find both on todays’ link.  Basically, the Kansas House has just passed a law that would allow people to opt out of obeying any anti-discrimination law that they feel conflicts with their religious beliefs.  Yes, this law allows you to ignore the law.

How does this work, I hear you cry?  Well, it allows people only to opt out of the law if the class of citizens is NOT protected at the state level.  So you couldn’t suddenly opt out of the law that protects religious people, black people, asian people, or elderly people, as they are protected at the state level.  Everyone else though becomes fair game.

For example: if your city has a law prohibiting discrimination against gay people, you would be able to exercise your religious freedom by opting out of that law because sexuality is not protected at the state level.  Really?  The problem here is that many times people have tried to add sexuality to state and federal laws but it has always been defeated, mostly by the very people who pushed for this law.  The deviousness of these people clearly knows no bounds.  But I can’t opt out of discriminating against them because they are protected at the state level it seems.

What a load of bollocks.  Watch the video for a super scary example of why people should be allowed to opt out of the law if they want to fire a “cross dresser”( by which they presumably mean someone who is transgender).  The most horrid aspect of it all is that the person saying this is a Democrat…..

Big love,
